Californication
“A morning of awkwardness is far better than a night of loneliness”
-Hank Moody, Californication, Season 1
Hank Moody might be the best character I’ve seen in TV. Sure… Jack Bauer is a badass, Gregory House is funny as hell, and Patrick Jane and Cal Lightman are as clever as they get, but Hank Moody is all of the above, and he feels real. Californication can make me as sad as it can make me laugh in one 23-minute episode. I think this quote pretty much defines who Hank is. It’s crude and it sounds horrible, but I guess we all have felt like that at some point in our lives, when you get so miserable and lonely that you just stop caring about someone else’s feelings and you put yurself on top of anyone else. It goes back to the whole misogynistic writings of Conor Oberst that I talked about yesterday.
