The Sopranos
“More is lost by indecision than by wrong decision”
-The Sopranos, Season 4
So there’s this HBO TV series called The Sopranos which was very popular during it’s time. I’d heard much about it but I never got around to watching it until my brother lent me the first seasons.
I liked the first seasons because they reminded me… of the 90’s. It was weird but there was this feeling that the scenery and the clothing and all this elements gave me that reminded me a lot of the late 90’s and everything that I was into back then. At first, that feeling was what kept me around, but then the show got really addicting, and it surprised me because I really thought I wasn’t going to like this series. It’s very well done. It feels real. They capture themes in a very realistic matter, like crime and love, divorce, teenage angst, family relationships, etc. I guess it has to do with the fact that it’s made by a “pay channel”.
Right, indecision. I’m very indecisive. Especially with long term decisions, but I guess everybody is. I’ve been thinking about this phrase lately whenever I’ve had to decide something and I must say it has helped me. Usually I take a long time deciding shit and I end up not doing it, and if you think about it you really are losing more by not doing shit than by doing shit and then regretting it or “failing”. I put that in quotes because I’ve been reading this sales book that my temporary boss gave me and I have found that it has little to do with sales, as you can pretty much take everything said in it and apply it to every aspect of your life. And in the book it says that the only time you really “Fail” is when you don’t do something. Which is true, if you’re already there, you might as well try.
So, what’s up? Well, I’ve been busy. Busy because it’s time to chose what career I want to practice for the rest of my life and, you know, that’s stressful and confusing. Especially when everybody has different opinions as to what you should do.
What else? My latest obsession in music is a little New Jersey band called Titus Andronicus, and I’m positive that their album “The Monitor” will be my favorite one this year. Other recent obsessions include The National, The Hold Steady and LCD Soundsystem.
I’ve been reading Charles Bukowski and he’s already become my favorite author. This year I’ve read Post Office, Factotum and Women from him and I already have Ham On Rye, but I have a bunch of other books I need to finish before I read it (I need to finish you, Fast Food Nation!). Speaking of books, I was thinking of getting a Kindle. But then it’s a bit expensive and I was thinking how I prefer to have my physical collection of books so that I can see them in the pretty book shelf and remember them and think about how I want to read them again someday, which will probably never happen. Still, I’m not a fan of this vaporware thing, except with music but that’s just because it’s more convenient. And I guess that’s it.
This time I’m gonna try to tone it down with the Oberst quotes. I said try.
